Treats for the neighbors

31 10 2010

Nothing like waiting until Halloween to make treats for the neighbor kids, but I got it done! Using a tutorial and pattern from Skip to my Lou and inspiration from Kerry at Kerry’s Paper Crafts, I made little treat containers for them.  The mummy is a Kool-Aid container I washed.  For the first try, pretty cute and easy.

Halloween Costume Ben Ten

24 10 2010

T4 wanted to be Ben Ten for Halloween.  He got the omnitrix watch for his birthday so all he needed was the jacket. JoAnn’s had pleather 50% off so it’s total cost was $4. I had the pattern from 2 years ago when he was Indiana Jones.  I used the reverse side of the pleather for the white stripes and I used the same and freezer paper to paint the 10.  I was so cheap (and couldn’t find my black thread) that I used white to sew the black circle on and then colored the thread with a black sharpie (I know….sad).  I can’t wait for him to dress up.  Super cute.

btw: pleather is a booger to work with!

Pottery Barn pillow

24 10 2010

I found this pillow in my Pottery Barn catalog and liked it.  I had some fabric you can print on that I got a Michael’s with my 40% coupon so I decided to try it.  I couldn’t get the dimensions like the catalog, but I think it turned out pretty cute.  The background fabric matches the long sofa pillow I made.linking to:

Papa’s Pumpkin Patch

21 10 2010

My dad grows pumpkins every year.  Taking a trip to Papa’s Pumpkin Patch has become a tradition my kids look forward to.  This year T1 was marching and missed the trip, but we got her a pumpkin or 2.

Pajamas and an owl

19 10 2010

I finally made a couple of pj bottoms for my kids and using Toad as my inspiration, made a mini owl to match with some scraps.

Halloween through the years

19 10 2010

About 4 years ago, I bought a Halloween frame.  Now each year I make a collage of the previous years costumes for the frame.  Here are my collages over the last few years.  Some of the costumes were homemade (my faves) and other we bought.

cave girl was made by me, bought the others 😦

Had some high school kids show up on their way to the Halloween Dance to take a picture with my Scooby. Super Cute!

I made the costumes this year, even sewing the Indiana Jones jacket

all homemade costumes. I made 5 crayons, lime green wasn't there that night.

Halloween Apothecary

9 10 2010

I visited Love Manor, AFTER Halloween last year 😦 and fell in love with the bottle labels.  I did make do by using them for my Love Potion bottles at Valentine’s Day, but I have been saving bottles for my Halloween Apothecary since then.  Well…… we moved and I can’t find the bottles, so I had to scramble for some new ones.  They turned out pretty good.  I used Love Manor’s labels for 3 and made one of my own. I think on the clear containers I will use the glitter effect I saw on ____ (OK, now I can’t find it, but again if this is you, email me and I’ll give you credit.) I will be painting the other bottle lids black 🙂

Halloween Subway Art (sort of)

7 10 2010

I don’t have a cutting machine (YET) but I really wanted some subway art.  I saw on a blog (if it’s you, email me so I can give you credit) how they used Halloween rub-ons to create subway art.  Of course, I couldn’t find Halloween rub-ons at my local craft haunts, but I did find some cute dimensional word stickers.  I would prefer white on black, but my kids tell me this is cute.

In the works: some BOO letters in honor of my friends 14 year old daughter going through cancer treatments (her nickname is Boo) and some apothecary jars inspired by Love Manor.
